Installation

Follow these steps to install the theme to your WordPress installation. Haven’t installed WordPress yet? Learn more here. This theme was built for wordpress.org use.

Install the theme

  1. Go to your “Downloads page” on ThemeForest.
  2. Click on the green button labeled “Download” next to the theme you wish to install and choose the option “Installable WordPress file only”.
  3. A zip file will begin downloading once you have clicked the button in step 2.
  4. Log in to your WordPress admin panel. Click on the “Themes” tab under “Appearance”, then click on the “Add theme” and “Upload theme” buttons.
  5. You can now upload the zip file you downloaded in step 2.
  6. Activate the theme after uploading it.
  7. To get the offline documentation and demo content click on the green butten labeled “Download” and select “All files & documentation” and unzip that file.

Setting the Homepage & the Blog page

  1. Go to your “WordPress admin panel”.
  2. Click on the “Pages” tab and click on “Add new”.
  3. First create a page (any name you want) and give it the “Classic Homepage” template in the right hand sidebar under “Page Attributes” to be able to use the custom Homepage template.
  4. Secondly create a page (any name you want) for the blog posts to show up on.
  5. You can now go to “Settings”, “Reading” inside your WordPress admin panel.
  6. Under “Front page displays” click on “Static front page”.
  7. Under “Front page” you can select the homepage page you created. under “Posts page” you can set any page for the blog posts to be shown on.
  8. You can of course set any page you want as your static front page.

Setting necessary settings

  1. Go to your “WordPress admin panel”.
  2. Click on the “Settings” tab and click on “Permalinks”.
  3. Make sure “default” option is not checked. Instead choose any of the other options.

Demo content

  1. Make sure you have installed and activated the “Woocommerce” plugin.
  2. Make sure you have installed and activated the “Screeyn Custom Post Types” plugin.
  3. Go to “Woocommerce” – “Settings” – “Products” – “Display”. Make sure that under “Product images” you deselect all “Hard Crop” options.
  4. Replace all numbers with the number “0”.
  5. Then go to “Tools” – “Import”.
  6. Scroll down and locate “WordPress”. If the importer isn’t yet installed click on “Install now”. Otherwhise click on “Run importer”.
  7. Select the file “Screeyn demo content.xml” located in the map “Demo content” (see Download full theme content to download the demo content).
  8. Wait untill the demo upload content is complete.

Recommended plugins

This theme requires a number of plugins to be installed for it to function as shown in the demo. You can check all recommended plugins by going to “appearance” – “Getting started” and clicking the tab “Plugins”.

Screeyn Custom Post Types

This is the plugin that adds extra post types for use in this theme.

  1. Go to your “WordPress admin panel”.
  2. Upon installing the theme you’ll notice there is an information box at the top of your admin panel.
  3. Click on “Begin installing plugins” and a new window will open up that lists all required plugins.
  4. Upon hovering on one of the plugin’s title you’ll notice there will be a new link beneath the title called “Install”.
  5. Click the install link and the plugin will start installing and will automatically activate upon finishing installing.
  6. After clicking on “Return to dashboard” you’ll notice that there are now a couple of extra custom post types in the left hand sidebar.

Woocommerce

This is the plugin that adds the e-commerce functionality to your theme.

  1. Go to your “WordPress admin panel”.
  2. Click on “plugins” and “add new”.
  3. Search for “Woocommerce” and install that plugin.

General settings

These are all general settings which you can use to adapt the theme to your liking.

Change colors

  1. Go to your “WordPress admin panel”.
  2. Click on the appearance tab and click on “Customize”.
  3. Click on “Colors” and you’ll be able to change almost all colors of the theme.

Favicon

  1. Go to your “WordPress admin panel”.
  2. Click on the appearance tab and click on “Customize”.
  3. Click on “Favicon image” and upload a favicon image (can also be .jpg and .png).

Logo image

You can add a logo image that replaces the logo text.

  1. Go to your “WordPress admin panel”.
  2. Click on the appearance tab and click on “Customize”.
  3. Click on “Logo image” and upload a logo image for use in the header.

Social icons

You can use social icons displayed in the footer and menu sidebar area.

  1. Go to your “WordPress admin panel”.
  2. Click on the appearance tab and click on “Customize”.
  3. Click on “Social icons” and enter the URL underneath your desired social media platform (always start the link with http://).

404 page header background

You can add a background image for the 404 page.

  1. Go to your “WordPress admin panel”.
  2. Click on the appearance tab and click on “Customize”.
  3. Click on “404 Page” and add a background image.

Woocommerce Settings

Installation

First you need to make sure that the Woocommerce plugin is installed as described earlier in this documentation file. It’s repeated below in case you didn’t follow those steps.

  1. Go to your “plugins tab” inside the WordPress admin panel.
  2. Click on the “add new” button.
  3. You can now type “Woocommerce” in the search form and press enter to find Woocommerce (WooCommerce – excelling eCommerce).
  4. Click on “Install now” and WordPress will ask you if you are sure you wish to install the plugin. Click Yes.
  5. After the installation finishes press “Activate plugin”
  6. Alternatively you can look for the Woocommerce plugin directly on the plugin directory and install it manually by clicking on “Upload plugin” and uploading the woocommerce zip file.
  7. It’s possible at this stage that you’ll be taken to a page requesting FTP details of your webserver. This happens if you’ve not installed a plugin on this particular installation of WordPress. If that’s the case, fill in your details to complete installation.

Setting up pages

Woocommerce requires a number of certain pages to function properly. Make sure that those pages are not children of other pages. Setting pages as child pages can cause 404 or other errors.

  1. Make sure to install the Woocommerce plugin as explained in step 3.1.
  2. Upon installing & activating the Woocommerce plugin you will see an information box inside your admin panel.
  3. Click on the “Install Woocommerce pages” button.
  4. The plugin will then create the following pages: Cart, Checkout, My account, Shop (under pages in your WordPress admin panel).
  5. You’ll be redirected to the Woocommerce landing page within your admin panel if everything is succesful.
  6. If there was an error creating the pages succesfully please create them manually by going to “Woocommerce” – “System status” – “Tools” – “Install Woocommerce pages”.
  7. You can also choose a different page for your shop to be displayed on by going to “Woocommerce”, “Settings”, “Products”, “Display”, “Shop page”.

General settings

You can read up on all settings of Woocommerce on the offical woocommerce documentation

  1. Go to your “WordPress admin panel”.
  2. Click on the “Woocommerce Options” tab and click on “General options”.
  3. Here you can set a number of general options.

Product categories

Add categories for your products.

  1. Go to your “WordPress admin panel”.
  2. Click on “Products”, “categories”.
  3. Set a title for the category.
  4. The description of the category is optional and will be displayed on the category page below the category title inside the header.
  5. The category thumbnail is used on the Homepage layout and the background header image is used on the category page (if not set it will just show the default header image).
  6. Save the category by clicking on “Add new product category”.

Adding a product

You can view the complete Woocommerce documentation here. There are four different versions available for a product:

  • The “Simple” product type covers the vast majority of any products you may sell. Simple products are shipped and have no options. For example, a can of drink.
  • A “Grouped” product is a collection of related products which can be purchased individually and can only consist of simple products. For example, a PS3 could be a grouped product as there are 80GB, 120GB and 200GB variations of that same parent product.
  • An “External” or “Affiliate” product is one that you list and describe on your website, but is sold elsewhere.
  • A “Variable” product is a product that has different variations, each of which may have a different SKU, price, stock options etc. For example, a t-shirt available in several different colours and/or sizes.

Follow the steps below to start creating your own product. For more information on each specific product type view the official documentation.

  1. Go to your “WordPress admin panel”.
  2. click on “Products” and click on “Add product”.
  3. You can then set a title, a product description and a short description (shown in the sidebar).
  4. You can also add a featured image (first image shown) and gallery images (shown in the slider on the single product page).
  5. You can also set a custom single product header image if you wish.
  6. In the right hand sidebar you can set a category for your product and use tags to describe it.

Filter Area

You can add widgets to the woocommerce filter area shown on the shop page to make sure your visitors can filter the products.

  1. Go to your “WordPress admin panel”.
  2. click on “Appearance” and click on “Widgets”.
  3. You can add widgets to the filter area. A maximum of four can be added.

General Settings

You can change a couple of general settings that change the way Woocommerce is handeled inside Screeyn.

  1. Go to your “WordPress admin panel”.
  2. Click on “Appearance” and click on “Customize”.
  3. Click on “Woocommerce Settings”.
  4. All settings are explained inside the settings panel.

Extended Product

You can have an extended product which means that you can add extra images with a title and text next to it below the product’s main images.

  1. Go to your “WordPress admin panel”.
  2. Click on “Products” and click on “Add new” or edit an existing one.
  3. Scroll down below the post editor and locate the metabox called “Extended Product”.
  4. Click on “Add or Upload Files” and select the images you wish to display.
  5. Fill in the images “Title” and “Caption” to be shown next to the image.

Register & login form

Screeyn has a built in option to beautifully display the register form together with the login form on the my-account page.

  1. Go to your “WordPress admin panel”.
  2. Click on “Woocommerce” – “Settings” – “Account”.
  3. Make sure the option “Enable registration on the “My Account” page” is checked.

Classic homepage

Setting the classic homepage

The classic homepage is powered by different sections allowing for great flexibility. The homepage items are shown on the homepage layout.

  1. Go to your “WordPress admin panel”.
  2. Click on the “Pages” tab and click on “Add new”.
  3. Create a page (any name you want) and give it the “Classic Homepage” template in the right hand sidebar under “Page Attributes” to be able to use the classic Homepage template.
  4. This page will now display the classic homepage layout which you can adjust following the steps below.

Creating homepage items

When you installed the Screeyn Custom Post types you’ll notice a “Homepage” tab in your WordPress admin panel left hand sidebar. You can create new homepage items here which will be shown on the Classic Homepage layout page.

  1. Go to your “WordPress admin panel”.
  2. Click on the “Homepage” tab and edit or create a new homepage item.
  3. You can set a template via the “Homepage items” metabox below the post editor.
  4. You can reorder the homepage items by using the plugin called “Post Types Order”. Clicking on “Homepage” and simply dragging and dropping the homepage items in a different order.

Text

Display a text block.

  1. Go to your “WordPress admin panel”.
  2. Click on the “Homepage” tab and create a new item.
  3. Give it the template “Text” under “Homepage item layout” inside the “Homepage items” metabox below the post editor.

Title Left

Display a block with the title left and the post content to the right.

  1. Go to your “WordPress admin panel”.
  2. Click on the “Homepage” tab and create a new item.
  3. Give it the template “Title Left” under “Homepage item layout” inside the “Homepage items” metabox below the post editor.

Block Text

Display a block with the title and post content to the left and the extra post content to the right.

  1. Go to your “WordPress admin panel”.
  2. Click on the “Homepage” tab and create a new item.
  3. Give it the template “Title Left” under “Homepage item layout” inside the “Homepage items” metabox below the post editor.
  4. The item title and post content will be shown left. To add content to the right simply look for the editor “Extra content” under “Homepage items”.

Shop Categories

Display the shop categories.

  1. Go to your “WordPress admin panel”.
  2. Click on the “Homepage” tab and create a new item.
  3. Give it the template “Shop Categories” under “Homepage item layout” inside the “Homepage items” metabox below the post editor.

Shop Latest Items

Display the newest items from the shop.

  1. Go to your “WordPress admin panel”.
  2. Click on the “Homepage” tab and create a new item.
  3. Give it the template “Shop Latest Items” under “Homepage item layout” inside the “Homepage items” metabox below the post editor.

Shop Sale Items

Display the shop sale items.

  1. Go to your “WordPress admin panel”.
  2. Click on the “Homepage” tab and create a new item.
  3. Give it the template “Shop Sale Items” under “Homepage item layout” inside the “Homepage items” metabox below the post editor.

Video Left

Display a block with a video to the left and the post content and title to the right.

  1. Go to your “WordPress admin panel”.
  2. Click on the “Homepage” tab and create a new item.
  3. Give it the template “Video Left” under “Homepage item layout” inside the “Homepage items” metabox below the post editor.
  4. You can add a video by simply entering a URL to a video under “Video” at the “Homepage Items”.

Video Right

Display a block with a video to the right and the post content and title to the left.

  1. Go to your “WordPress admin panel”.
  2. Click on the “Homepage” tab and create a new item.
  3. Give it the template “Video Right” under “Homepage item layout” inside the “Homepage items” metabox below the post editor.
  4. You can add a video by simply entering a URL to a video under “Video” at the “Homepage Items”.

Banner

Display a block with a background image and a title vertically centered.

  1. Go to your “WordPress admin panel”.
  2. Click on the “Homepage” tab and create a new item.
  3. Give it the template “Banner” under “Homepage item layout” inside the “Homepage items” metabox below the post editor.
  4. You can add a background image by clicking on “Set featured image”.

Feature Left

Display a block with an image to the right and the title and post content to the left.

  1. Go to your “WordPress admin panel”.
  2. Click on the “Homepage” tab and create a new item.
  3. Give it the template “Feature Left” under “Homepage item layout” inside the “Homepage items” metabox below the post editor.
  4. You can add an image by clicking on “Set featured image”.

Feature Right

Display a block with an image to the left and the title and post content to the right.

  1. Go to your “WordPress admin panel”.
  2. Click on the “Homepage” tab and create a new item.
  3. Give it the template “Feature Right” under “Homepage item layout” inside the “Homepage items” metabox below the post editor.
  4. You can add an image by clicking on “Set featured image”.

Testimonials

Display a block with testimonials.

  1. Go to your “WordPress admin panel”.
  2. Click on the “Homepage” tab and create a new item.
  3. Give it the template “Testimonials” under “Homepage item layout” inside the “Homepage items” metabox below the post editor.
  4. You can add testimonials by clicking on “Testimonials” in the left hand sidebar of your WordPress admin panel.
  5. Click on “Add new”. Select an image for the testimonial by clicking on “Set featured image”. Add a position of the testimonial by entering text inside “Title” under “Testimonial Options”.

Features

Display a block with features.

  1. Go to your “WordPress admin panel”.
  2. Click on the “Homepage” tab and create a new item.
  3. Give it the template “Features” under “Homepage item layout” inside the “Homepage items” metabox below the post editor.
  4. You can add features by clicking on “Features” in the left hand sidebar of your WordPress admin panel.
  5. Click on “Add new”. You can select an image for the feature by clicking on “Set featured image”.

News

Display the three latest news items.

  1. Go to your “WordPress admin panel”.
  2. Click on the “Homepage” tab and create a new item.
  3. Give it the template “News” under “Homepage item layout” inside the “Homepage items” metabox below the post editor.

Press

Display press or client items.

  1. Go to your “WordPress admin panel”.
  2. Click on the “Homepage” tab and create a new item.
  3. Give it the template “Press” under “Homepage item layout” inside the “Homepage items” metabox below the post editor.
  4. You can add press items by clicking on “Press” in the left hand sidebar of your WordPress admin panel.
  5. Click on “Add new”. You can select an image for the press item by clicking on “Set featured image”. You can also link that image to a specific url by filling out an URL inside “Link” under “Press Options”.

Using Homepage options

You have a couple of options for the homepage items

  1. Go to your “WordPress admin panel”.
  2. Click on the “Homepage” tab and create a new item or edit an existing one.
  3. Locate the metabox “Homepage items”. You’ll find a couple of options here.

Homepage Slider

You can add a slider on the Classic Homepage by using the “Gallery” custom post type.

  1. Go to your “WordPress admin panel”.
  2. Click on the “Gallery” tab and create a new item.
  3. Set an image for that slide by clicking on “Set featured image”.
  4. If the slide image background is dark you should select the option “Dark” under “Background” at the “Featured item options” metabox. Likewise if the background is light, you should select the option “light”.
  5. You can also choose where to align the title and post content by choosing an option under “Align” at the “Featured item options” metabox.

Info Box

You can set an info box. This will be shown on the front page. When closing it it will become hidden with the use of cookies and will not be shown again for a week.

Setting the info box

  1. Go to your “WordPress admin panel”.
  2. Click on the appearance tab and click on “customize”.
  3. A new window will open with a sidebar left and the live preview of the theme to the right. Click on “Info Box”.
  4. You can add a title and content. In the content HTML code can be used.

Intro Area

You can set an intro area on the shop page. When closing it it will become hidden with the use of cookies and will not be shown again untill the user closes his browser and revisits the website.

Setting the intro area

  1. Go to your “WordPress admin panel”.
  2. Click on the appearance tab and click on “customize”.
  3. A new window will open with a sidebar left and the live preview of the theme to the right. Click on “Intro area”.
  4. You can add a background image and content.

Blog posts

Video post

  1. Go to your “WordPress admin panel”.
  2. Click on the posts tab and click on edit on the post you wish to change or create a new one.
  3. Give the post the post format “Video” under “Format” in the right hand sidebar.
  4. Upon clicking the video post format radio button you’ll have a new metabox below the post editor called “Video”.
  5. Enter the URL to your video and the metabox will automatically convert your video.

Standard post

  1. Go to your “WordPress admin panel”.
  2. Click on the posts tab and click on edit on the post you wish to change or create a new one.
  3. Give the post the post format “Standard” under “Format” in the right hand sidebar.
  4. You can add a featured image by clicking on “Set featured image”.

Image post

  1. Go to your “WordPress admin panel”.
  2. Click on the posts tab and click on edit on the post you wish to change or create a new one.
  3. Give the post the post format “Image” under “Format” in the right hand sidebar.
  4. You can add a featured image by clicking on “Set featured image”.

Gallery post

  1. Go to your “WordPress admin panel”.
  2. Click on the posts tab and click on edit on the post you wish to change or create a new one.
  3. Give the post the post format “Gallery” under “Format” in the right hand sidebar.
  4. A new metabox will be shown below the post editor called “Featured Gallery”. You can add images here which will be shown in the gallery.

Page Templates

Product Categories

You can display all your categories in a beautifull manner by using this custom template.

  1. Go to your “WordPress admin panel”.
  2. Click on the pages tab and click on edit on the page you wish to change or create a new one.
  3. Give that page the “Product Categories” template in the right hand sidebar under “Page Attributes” to be able to use the full width page template.
